Sometime this weekend the PlayStation Network suffered a major crash that affected PS3 owners globally. Not only is the error preventing users from logging in to PSN, it is also preventing them from playing various games, for instance "Heavy Rain."

Users were reporting over the weekend that a "8001050F" was preventing them from logging in to the PlayStation Network. On top of that any game that supports trophies cannot be played offline. It appears that the issue lies with the PS3 hardware, as the PS3 Slim models are unaffected by the error.

"We're aware of people having PSN connection issues. We're looking into it and will keep you updated. Thanks for your continued support."

So far there seems to be no way of fixing the issue but Sony has stated they have "many people" working on the problem. They recommend that you follow their Twitter account where they will be updating as much as possible.
