It has taken five years for us to get to this point but at long last Final Fantasy XIII is ready to launch. With the games release less than a week away we wanted to get you up to speed on what you need to know for the launch of one of the most anticipated games of 2010. Here is our Pre-launch Prep for Final Fantasy XIII.

The story begins in a paradise city in the sky known as Cocoon, whose inhabitants have lived in peace for centuries. The key to keeping that peace is the fal'Cie, who are benevolent beings who protect the city from harm. Below Cocoon is the world of Pulse, which is feared and reviled by the inhabitants of the sky city, and even more so by the cities leaders, the Sanctum.
It is from the realm of Pulse that a rather unsavory fal'Cie is awakened and it doesn't share the same kind disposition of its fellow beings. This hostile fal'Cie claims human beings as property, branding them as the l'Cie. The l'Cie must do the bidding of their master, or suffer a fate worse than death.

Evolved Active Time Battle System - The battle system that we all know and love will be returning to Final Fantasy XIII but it will be slightly evolved. You will now be using a "multi-slot ATB gauge" to chain a number of attacks together in a single turn. You can choose to do a few major attacks or a large number of minor attacks, however, your gauge will run out once the attacks have been launched so you must choose your attacks carefully.
Paradigms - Gone are the days of any one character taking a specific role in battle. Now any charter can take on any role in combat through Paradigms. Using a Paradigm shift you can change a characters role in battle at any given time, to any of six roles ranging from Commando to Medic.
Summoning System - The summoning system will be returning to Final Fantasy XIII but this time it will feature the Gestalt Mode, which will allow your summoner and Eidolon to fight as one.

The release of Final Fantasy XIII will mark the first simultaneous release of a Final Fantasy game for both Xbox 360 and PS3. The questions that fans have been asking since this announcement was first made was how the graphics would differ between consoles. After doing a little digging it appears that what many had assumed is true, the PS3 will indeed have a better looking Final Fantasy XIII. This should not deter any fan who owns an Xbox 360 from purchasing the game, because that is just insane. The experience is far too enjoyable and absorbing to pass up over a difference of just a few pixels.

There has been many an epic Final Fantasy game but it seems Square Enix is putting more into Final Fantasy XIII than in any game of the franchise. So much so that they have even enlisted a little star power with the Grammy nominated Leona Lewis. Her new song "My Hands" will be the main song title of the game.

There is little else that I can say. I could talk about how Final Fantasy XIII will push the boundaries of next gen graphics, or the fact more development time went into the game than any other in the series but sadly I do not have time to do so. I will simply say this, Final Fantasy XIII will be unique and unlike any other game in the series. Whether that will make it the best game in the history of the franchise remains to be seen.
