War: Modern Style Since the first announcement, Modern Warfare 2 has captured the attention of gamers everywhere. It has been the most hyped and anticipated game this year, and now that the wait is over there is only one question that remains. Does it meet our expectations?
From Russia with Love At the beginning of the game you are working undercover to take down a really bad dude named Makarov. He is a Russian terrorist who organizes a blood bath at a Moscow airport. He is unfortunately one step ahead of you and outs you as an American before killing you. The full blame of the massacre is then placed on the United States and Russia mounts a full assault on US shores.
What I loved Environments- The environments are some of the most finely polished I have ever seen. You will travel to many war torn regions around the world, including the United States, which is one of the most haunting and surreal maps of the game.
Combat - The combat is a real challenge in Modern Warfare 2, and is almost overwhelming at times. As you advance through maps your enemies will come from all sides, and when you put one down more will come in his place. Your enemies have some of the best AI of any game, and will use various strategies to try and take you down. It creates a real challenge that even the most seasoned gamer will find difficult at times.
Realism - The game has the most realistic combat I have ever seen. Most of the time the battles are intense and will be coming at you from all sides. You will often find yourself disoriented and confused with grenade blasts making your ears ring, or blood splatter blurring your vision. There will be a number of moments where the combat is so intense you will actually feel anxious, something that can only be accomplished by a truly absorbing game.
Massive, and I mean massive multiplayer - The multiplayer mode is simply the best on earth. All of the best aspects of multiplayer from the original Modern Warfare have been brought back, and the not so good aspects have been dropped. You have several multiplayer modes to choose from, including the old favorites like death match and capture the flag. You will also be able to upgrade your character, focus on certain abilities, get new weapons, and mod them as well.
What I hated
The airport scene - I know what your thinking but believe me I am not going to start harping about video game violence. In this scene of the game a group of terrorists massacre a Moscow airport, and you get to play the entire scene! You however are not a terrorist in this mode of the game; you are only working undercover to sting the bad guy, so why then do you have the ability to shoot your gun? I understand that you get to walk through this scene to get a better understanding of how truly evil your adversary is but shouldn't your ability to shoot have been turned off? You feel more like one of the bad guys in this scene rather than a hero, and it takes away from the idea of you being the good guy.
The Verdict Modern Warfare 2 was one of those games that as soon as you saw the first trailer for it you said, "I'm sold!" So far Modern Warfare 2 has been the best game I have played this year. It is perfectly crafted, absorbing, and yes the world beyond your living room will no longer matter once you start playing it. We give Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, 5 out of 5 stars.
