In a big surprise, Disney has announced that they will be purchasing Marvel Entertainment. The total cost of the purchase was $ 50 per Marvel share, which comes out to $4 billion total. Each Marvel share holder was given $30 per share, as well as .0745 of Disney shares for each marvel share they owned.

"Disney is the perfect home for Marvel's fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses," Ike Perlmutter, Marvel's Chief Executive Officer stated. "This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney's tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world."
Under the deal Disney will acquire Marvel Entertainment, along with its entire catalog of over 5,000 characters. The Board of Directors for Disney as well as Marvel have agreed on the deal, however, Marvel share holders have not approved of it yet.
I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor after news of this announcement, so I am incapable of forming an opinion at this time. What do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, crime against humanity? Sound off let us know what you think.

As was discussed publicly in a meeting earlier today between Disney and Marvel Entertainment staff, Disney knows it's place is not at the head of Marvel's creator's table. This buyout is simply a business move that, as far as I can tell, can only make Marvel grow financially and creatively. So, as far as existing and new Marvel projects go, they're all safe. As far as new & existing talent is concerned, there will now be even more job opportunities for all persons seeking professions related to drawing, animation, writing, directing, and more!
Disney is smart and knows that the only way it will benefit from its purchase will be to make us, the Marvel fans, happy.
