Today Google's plans to start develop a speech-to-speech translator for Android phones was revealed. The Times Online reported that the search giant will be building on their already existing Google Translator and voice recognition software to work out a system in the next few years.

Cell PhoneGoogle has already created a successful system for translating text online, which currently covers some 52 languages. Combined with Google's already existing voice recognition software for Android phones, Google can potential create software that can some day translate spoken language.

One of the greatest hurdles Google will be facing in developing this voice translation software is individual accents. An issue that Google believes will be remedied by the the software's ability to learn an individuals speech patterns.

Google's head of translation services, Franz Och stated "Everyone has a different voice, accent and pitch. But recognition should be effective with mobile phones because by nature they are personal to you. The phone should get a feel for your voice from past voice search queries, for example."
