It was yesterday that we reported on the potentially game changing decision that Google made to stop censoring their Chinese branch. In a lengthy and clear message on their company blog, Google stated they will no longer censor search results in Google.cn.

Although the search giant is firm in their decision, they have stated that they will negotiate with the Chinese government. A decision that may prove fruitless, as China has taken a stance that is as firm as Google's.

In a briefing in Beijing today Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu stated "The Chinese government administers the Internet according to law and we have explicit stipulations over what content can be spread on the Internet." The Director of the State Council Information Office Wang Chen also weighed in stating "Effective guidance of public opinion on the Internet is an important way of protecting the security of online information."

All and all the message that China is sending to Google is unyielding. Google stated that they are considering pulling out of china entirely if negotiations do not pan out, a decision that is becoming a very real possibility.
