Some of you may remember our last smartphone face-off between the Droid, HTC EVO, and Nexus One. The winner of that little throw down was none other than the HTC EVO. Today we are staging another championship smartphone match-up, but this time between the Droid X and iPhone 4. Will there be a clear winner in this showdown or will it be a draw? ![]() Connectivity - Winner Although both phones have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G connections, the Droid X takes this round for the simple fact that it can double as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Camera - Winner The iPhone 4 may have superior display and feature video chat, but the Droid X has the better camera. The iPhone 4 features a 5 MP camera with LED flash, and the Droid X features an 8 MP camera with dual LED flash camera, not to mention an HDMI port for viewing your stills in high-def. Both phones, however, can record video in 720p HD. Reception - Winner You can hold the Droid X anyway that you want without losing reception. Nuff said. ![]() Display - Winner Although the Droid X has a larger screen of 4.3 inches, the iPhone 4 offers the superior display. It is so superior and fancy that Apple had to give it a new name, calling it "Retina display," which features 960 by 640 pixels, where as the Droid X display only features 854 by 480. Higher pixel counts mean clearer images and crisper text, so the iPhone 4 wins this round. Video Chat - Winner The Droid X really doesn't have a leg to stand on in this part here as it doesn't feature a forward facing camera, making it impossible to do video chat with the phone. So the iPhone 4 face time takes this round, obviously.
This was no easy decision; the iPhone 4 and Droid X both have excellent features and should meet any owner requirements depending on preference, but for us, the Droid X is the overall winner. It may not have the better display or feature video chat, but it does have better connectivity and reception. Although it is a bulkier phone than the iPhone 4, the convenience of a built-in Wi-Fi hub bumps the value of the Droid X up a notch in our eyes. Add the fact it has a better camera, a HDMI port, and no nightmarish issues with reception, boys and girls, we have a winner.
